On Thursday afternoon, May 8, 1997, Fred Davis was in a serious accident when he was crushed between the NPC church bus and another vehicle. Although his injuries were extremely serious, he has been recovering exceptionally well. It is only by God's great mercy and grace that He has allowed Fred to still be with us. Fred's pelvis wass crushed on the left side and his hip was dislocated on the right. In addition, he had two broken ribs as well as a dislocated verterbre in his neck. The slipped disc in his neck was considered the most life-threatening at the time.

Amazingly enough, God allowed no injuries to any major organs; however, the injuries he did sustain will continue to plague his for many years. He has undergone numerous surgeries, first on his neck, then on his hip/pelvis. After spending 28 days on his back in ICU, he moved up stairs in Memorial General Hospital and then to El Paso for live-in therapy. After continued recovery, he finally moved back home on August 1, almost 3 months after the accident. He has progressed from being bed-ridden to using a wheel chair, then to a walker followed by crutches. Now he uses only a cane (when he feels like it)! One leg is about 2 inches longer then the other, making walking somewhat complicated. This can be somewhat corrected by a hip replacement surgery that the doctors had initially tought necessary. However, they have decided that this surgery is not needed for possibly another 10 years or more. Fred hopes it's one he never has to go through.

This is truely an amazing story of an amazing man of God and his family. I have heard Fred mention many times that it was the Grace of God and the prayers of his peers that helped him through such a challenging time. Please continue to pray for Fred and his family. They are in the process of moving to Enumclaw, Washington, with a delayed stop in Boise, Idaho to marry off their oldest daughter, Kresta. Then in December, they will be returning to Las Cruces to give away their youngest daughter, Melissa, in marriage. Continued prayer during these times of transition would be greatly appreciated.
